Conditioner Bar - Solid Hair Conditioner, Detangler, Beard Balm and Shave Cream

from $11.00

A convenient molded bar of solid conditioner, this is available in 2 different sizes - a 1.25 oz small tester/travel size bar, and a hefty 3 oz bar - and comes in a variety of essential oil scents (to coordinate with Solace Farm shampoo bars), as well as unscented.  I am also adding a few fragrance scents (as opposed to essential oils) as they are requested and shown to be popular - if you think I should carry a particular scent, let me know - I just might add it!

NOTE: Starting in December, I will be moving to a slightly different recipe. I have tested the new one, and it seems just about identical in performance, but has slightly simplified ingredients, mainly removing one that is difficult for me to find. I don't think you'll even notice a difference, but in the spirit of full transparency, I wanted to make that clear! The new ingredient list is below, after the existing one.

This is super-potent, very concentrated - if the price seems a little steep, please note it will last *forever*! I don't wash my hair more than about once a week - since I use my shampoo bar of course :-) - but a large bar would probably last me at least a year! Honestly, even more since I don't even use this every time I shampoo, since my shampoo bar is so conditioning. Obviously that would vary wildly depending on frequency of use, length of hair, thickness of hair/amount used, etc, but as a reference point...

This bar has also been recommended by customers as a great replacement for shaving cream, and also as a good beard treatment/oil/conditioner. I have been asked multiple times over the years if I make a beard oil, and this is it!

These both come in metal tins, and the 3 oz bar also has the option of a paperboard pot, if you prefer compostable packaging to recyclable. I also have these available in a refill, wrapped in either a coffee filter (3 oz) or in a glassine paper bag (1.25 oz). This is also a great low-waste option if you won’t need the tin for storage at all, just pop it in your shower caddy or holder as-is!

The ingredients are a little more complicated than my soaps and balms, but they are all so simple, and as natural as possible.  The label may look a little overwhelming, especially compared with my other products, but I have listed both the scientific government-required ingredient name, as well as a "translation" in bold print to clarify what it "really" is - for example, Hydroxypropyl Trimonium Honey (Honeyquat).

I will say, while the unscented version has no added fragrance or essential oils, it does have a subtle but noticeable natural aroma from the liquid silk and keratin - these are amino acids, so have a rather nutty, soy sauce-like aroma. This does come through in the unscented version, but not in the others.

BTMS 50 (emulsifying wax)
Cetyl alcohol (not actually alcohol, but a moisturizing wax)
Argan oil
Cocoa & Shea butters
Honeyquat (water-soluble moisturizer derived from honey)
Panthenol (pro-vitamin B-5)
Liquid silk (protein)
Liquid keratin (also protein)
Essential oils
Vitamin E (antioxidant)

New Recipe:

BTMS 25 (emulsifying wax) instead of BTMS 50, harder to source

Cetearyl alcohol (not actually alcohol, but a moisturizing wax) instead of Cetyl alcohol

Argan oil

Shea butter no cocoa butter

Honeyquat (water-soluble moisturizer derived from honey)

Panthenol (pro-vitamin B-5)

Liquid silk (protein)

Liquid keratin (also protein)

Essential oils

Water

Germall Plus (preservative, necessary for any emulsion with water)

I have been so pleased with this conditioner, I have shoulder-length hair and only need 3 swipes to be well-conditioned once massaged through. If I use more my hair feels like a conditioner commercial the first day, soooo slinky-silky-soft, but then tends to lose body after that and need washing sooner. I can't stress enough, this is STRONG STUFF!! If you have trouble with it leaving a residue and being sticky, use WAAAY less - just a couple of swipes, or just a hand-roll rubbed through - and rinse VERY well. It is amazing, just don't overdo it - this is super-concentrated compared to the commercial liquid stuff!
