Grass-fed Tallow Salve with Emu Oil, Carnivore Skin Care
This is the simplest skin ointment I make, simply 80% grass-fed beef tallow (or sheep on request), and 20% emu oil, for a fully carnivore, plant-oil-free, salicylate-free skin moisturizer.
Grass-fed tallow is loaded with vitamins and nutrients for our skin, as fellow animals our skin is best nourished by animal fats. These fats contain fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K as well as other nutrients that are amazing for our skin. Emu oil is also a fantastic ingredient - it is high in numerous vitamins, especially A, E, and F, has lots of beneficial fatty acids, and studies have shown that, due to it's small particle size, it may help penetrate skin better than other oils, carrying those nutrients deeper into the skin, helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scars, and discoloration, making it a great oil to pair with the grass-fed tallow.
This is amazing stuff - less waxy-feeling than my regular beeswax-based Body Balm or Tallow Balm www.etsy.com/listing/550982862 (which I love, don't get me wrong!) - this soaks right in and really moisturizes. I actually prefer to use both this Salve and my Tallow Balm in tandem for very dry skin - the Salve to quench the dryness, and the beeswax-based Balm later to seal in the soothing moisture, or overnight to really soak in.
Grass-fed Tallow is really great for skin, and is local, sustainable, and much more eco-friendly and ethical than many oils that contribute to deforestation, labor exploitation, etc. I love that 80% of my ingredients for this product come from within a few miles of us, if not our own farm, rather than the other side of the world. We render all the tallow ourselves here on the farm, from either our own Scottish Highland steers, or from the grass-fed steers of 2 fellow small, sustainable, diverse farms just down the road - we try to respect the sacrifice our beautiful heritage cattle have made to feed and aid us, and use all that we can from the animals. We also use the creamy tallow from our sheep and the sheep of two other fellow small, sustainable, diverse farms just down the road :-) I actually personally prefer the sheep tallow, it makes a slightly creamier, softer balm - possibly only perceptible to me, but I prefer it! If you have a preference, just add a note to your order asking me to use sheep tallow.
I offer this salve in a variety of essential oil and fragrance oil scents - the essential oils are designated with "EO" so choose which is best suited to your needs from the drop-down box when placing your order. Under FDA regulations, I cannot make health claims about the use of essential oils, but if you have any particular requests of EO blends based on your own research and beliefs, I am happy to make that blend for you - I have a fairly large selection of oils so check with me or just add a note in the "Custom Scent" box at checkout.
This handmade salve is available in 4 sizes of metal tin, and an 8 oz paperboard pot option if you prefer a compostable container.
