Wool Dryer Balls - All-Natural Dryer Sheet, Anti-Static + Fabric Softener, 100% Wool

$21.00

These dryer balls come in a set of three, and are made with either felted alpaca wool or sheep wool cores, and an outer covering of felted sheep wool.  The sheep wool is the natural cream color of my rare-breed Tunis sheep. These are made entirely on our farm, with our own alpaca or sheep wool - we use the lower grade wools not "good" enough for spinning, but wonderful for felting, and avoid throwing away wool just because it isn't "nice enough" for yarn. This is a time-consuming process, by hand, involving multiple rounds through the washing machine, but since we only use harvested rainwater and return it to the ground with only handmade biodegradable soap in it (and of course all that sheep-wool-funk and dirt!), even that is zero-waste :-)

These vary somewhat in size and shape due to the handmade nature, and the difference between the alpaca and sheep wool - the alpaca cores are denser, and therefore smaller, but I make these by weight not size so the functionality should be the same. Also, the Tunis sheep have a red kemp hair on their legs, bellies and faces which can wander into the fleece sometimes, so there may be reddish flecks and hairs in the wool on some dryer balls (last photo) but it is the natural wool of the Tunis breed. I set that kempy wool aside for dryer balls as it is not suitable for spinning quality, but can still serve a great purpose!

Dryer balls replace both dryer sheets and fabric softener, as well as speeding dry time by 25-40%, saving on electric costs (dryers are one of the biggest household energy users).  This is because the dryer balls keep the clothing from wadding up - similar to putting tennis balls or a shoe in with a load of jeans, they both aerate and physically soften the clothes.  Unlike tennis balls, they are made entirely of natural material - wool! - so you don't have to worry about what might be volatizing out and into your laundry from that tennis ball or shoe :-/

If you have purchased these balls from me in the past, and your outer covering of wool is wearing thin, contact me for info on refurbishing your existing ones at a discount.
